HPG / The Human Atlas

Become a man
you can count on.

Not a collection of optimized parts. A whole person with a life to lead, people to care for, and something worth contributing.

Choose a discipline. Examine its place in your life. Put one meaningful practice into action.

01 / Seven-day fieldwork

Mind & Attention

Direct the instrument. Examine the story.

Your attention is a finite part of your life. Give it an assignment before someone else does. High performance begins with the ability to distinguish what happened, what you believe about it, and what you will do next.

The human reason

Be present when it matters.

The athlete between plays. The founder facing a difficult decision. The father listening to his child. Attention is how you show up for the life you say you value.

What deserves your undivided attention today?

Return something useful.

Help someone think through a problem. Ask a better question before offering your answer.

Share a lived experience, what you observed, and its limits in the member Exchange. Your private notes are not posted automatically.

Truth seeking precedes truth speaking. Confidence is not a substitute for evidence, and a difficult day is not an identity. Own the next useful action without pretending every condition is under your control.

Begin with an honest baseline.

Answer these in your own notes. This page does not collect your responses.

  1. What meaningful output is attention supposed to produce this week?
  2. Which feed, notification, or repeating thought most often interrupts it?
  3. What observation would make you revise a belief you currently defend?

Your first seven days

One small assignment each day. Adapt it to your responsibilities and capacity.

  1. DAY 1

    Observe

Choose one concrete output. Note when your attention leaves it and what triggered the departure. Do not score yourself as a person.

  2. DAY 2

    Clear the field

Remove optional notifications and feeds from one work period. Tell anyone who genuinely needs access how to reach you.

  3. DAY 3

    Practice returning

Choose a focused interval you can sustain. When attention moves, note it and return to the next action. Quality matters more than a heroic timer.

  4. DAY 4

    Audit an input

Examine one claim you consumed. Write the claim, its source, the evidence, and the strongest reasonable objection.

  5. DAY 5

    Rehearse the response

Name a likely pressure situation. Rehearse a specific response: pause, identify the task, and execute the next controllable step.

  6. DAY 6

    Give useful attention

Listen to someone without preparing your rebuttal. Ask what support they want before offering your solution.

  7. DAY 7

    Review the evidence

Compare planned output with completed output. Keep one effective boundary and correct one recurring source of distraction.

Measure what matters.

Record focused blocks completed, the actual output, and one interruption pattern. A streak is useful only if it serves the mission. Keep reflective notes private unless you choose to share them.

From knowledge to conduct

Put one practice into your day.

Review the practice in your private Command Center, choose a Quad, and save when ready. Your existing plan stays intact. New members first establish their 90-Day Mission.

Sources, interpretation & boundaries

Nootropics are not the entry requirement. Before any supplement experiment, identify the task, check human evidence that matches it, discuss medication interactions with a qualified clinician or pharmacist, and establish a stop rule. Do not confuse an expert's personal stack with a prescription for you. Persistent distress or sleep problems deserve qualified care, not a discipline verdict.

HPG philosophy

The attention and belief exercises here are HPG fieldwork, not a diagnostic test or a validated psychological score.

Author perspective

Cal Newport argues for deliberate digital use and protecting attention. This informs the media-boundary exercise; it is not proof that one schedule fits every occupation.

Controlled study

A small randomized crossover study in trained athletes found no added benefit from combining caffeine and theanine on its tested outcomes. A claim about one mental task cannot simply be transferred to athletic performance.

02 / Seven-day fieldwork

Skin & Grooming

Care is a standard, not a performance.

The first objective is skin that is comfortable and cared for, and a grooming routine you can maintain. Start with the condition in front of you. More products and more aggressive treatment do not automatically mean better care.

The human reason

Care for what carries you.

Care is often quiet: a routine after training, clean tools, protection before a long day outside. You do not need to dislike your appearance to take responsibility for it.

What would consistent care look like if nobody else saw it?

Return something useful.

Share a simple routine that helped you, including what irritated your skin and what you still do not know. Leave room for a different experience.

Share a lived experience, what you observed, and its limits in the member Exchange. Your private notes are not posted automatically.

Presentation should express self-respect and consideration. Build a repeatable baseline before chasing an elaborate intervention. The useful question is not how impressive the shelf looks, but whether the routine is serving you.

Begin with an honest baseline.

Answer these in your own notes. This page does not collect your responses.

  1. Is your skin usually dry, oily, sensitive, or a combination, and what currently irritates it?
  2. Which parts of your grooming routine are inconsistent when you travel or train?
  3. Does your current protection fit your actual outdoor exposure?

Your first seven days

One small assignment each day. Adapt it to your responsibilities and capacity.

  1. DAY 1

    Take inventory

List what you already use and how your skin feels. Keep a private baseline note; a photograph is optional and stays under your control.

  2. DAY 2

    Simplify cleansing

Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing to prove that you are clean. Note tightness or discomfort.

  3. DAY 3

    Support comfort

Use a tolerated moisturizer, especially after washing. Keep the rest of the routine stable so you can interpret any change.

  4. DAY 4

    Prepare for exposure

Plan shade and protective clothing. For exposed skin, dermatology guidance recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher, reapplied about every two hours outdoors and after swimming or sweating.

  5. DAY 5

    Refine grooming

Clean your tools and inspect the result in good light. If shaving irritates, work with hair growth rather than repeatedly against it.

  6. DAY 6

    Make it portable

Prepare a simple kit for training or travel using products you already tolerate. Do not introduce several new active ingredients at once.

  7. DAY 7

    Keep what works

Review comfort, irritation, and consistency. Continue the basics. Seek qualified advice about persistent problems before escalating treatment.

Measure what matters.

Track routine completion and skin comfort in plain words: comfortable, dry, irritated, or another useful observation. This is personal observation, not a skin-age score. More treatment is not the goal.

Sources, interpretation & boundaries

Changing, bleeding, or concerning skin lesions need professional assessment. Retinoids, peels, lasers, and similar interventions are outside this baseline and may irritate or be unsuitable. An online protocol cannot assess your skin, medications, or medical history.

Professional guidance

The cleansing, moisturizing, shaving, and sun-protection basics follow non-government guidance from the American Academy of Dermatology.

Individual protocol

Bryan Johnson documents an intensive personal protocol. It is useful to examine consistency and measurement, but a single person's regimen and reported results are not universal instructions.

Philosophical context

As Above Soma treats care of the physical vehicle as part of a wider practice. That frame is philosophical; it does not establish the clinical effectiveness of a treatment.

03 / Seven-day fieldwork

Nutrition

Feed the mission. Test the assumptions.

An athlete in heavy training, a performer on tour, and an entrepreneur at a desk do not have identical demands. Begin with the workload and the person, not a food ideology. A useful nutrition system must work on an ordinary, inconvenient day.

The human reason

Have enough to give.

A demanding practice. A long performance. An evening with people who need you. Food supports participation in your life; it should not become the whole of it.

What does your body need to support the day you have actually planned?

Return something useful.

Prepare a useful meal for someone or share a practical way to make eating well less difficult. Offer help without policing another person's plate.

Share a lived experience, what you observed, and its limits in the member Exchange. Your private notes are not posted automatically.

No borrowed certainty. Learn from serious practitioners, examine the evidence behind their claims, and take responsibility for the result. The baseline is a repeatable eating pattern that supports your actual life, not another identity to defend.

Begin with an honest baseline.

Answer these in your own notes. This page does not collect your responses.

  1. Is the present objective performance, recovery, general health, or a professionally guided change in body composition?
  2. Where does eating break down: preparation, access, appetite, digestion, schedule, or conflicting advice?
  3. What meal can you repeat without making the rest of the day harder?

Your first seven days

One small assignment each day. Adapt it to your responsibilities and capacity.

  1. DAY 1

    Map the real day

Record an ordinary day of meals, training, and work without deliberately changing it. Note hunger, digestion, and energy rather than assigning moral labels to food.

  2. DAY 2

    Build an anchor meal

Plan one repeatable meal with a protein source, plant foods you tolerate, and enough food for the demands of your day. Adapt with qualified support where your needs require it.

  3. DAY 3

    Remove one obstacle

Prepare the ingredients or choose a dependable available meal. Make the useful choice practical before relying on willpower.

  4. DAY 4

    Observe the response

Notice how the meal fits appetite, digestion, and activity. Do not turn one tired afternoon into a diagnosis or a reason to eliminate whole food groups.

  5. DAY 5

    Plan the difficult day

Choose a workable backup for travel, late meetings, or training. An imperfect meal you can obtain is more useful than an ideal plan you cannot execute.

  6. DAY 6

    Examine one claim

Select one nutrition claim you have adopted. Find its original evidence and ask who was studied, what changed, and whether the result matches your objective.

  7. DAY 7

    Review one variable

Compare consistency, comfort, and energy with the baseline. Keep the anchor meal or adjust one feature. Avoid changing the entire system at once.

Measure what matters.

Track anchor meals completed, preparation friction, digestive comfort, and energy for your main task. These observations guide questions; they do not prove a food caused a change. Weight loss is not the default success metric.

How Not to Diet focuses on weight management; its objective is not automatically an athlete's objective. Avoid chronic under-fueling or treating rest as failure. Medical conditions, disordered eating concerns, major dietary restrictions, and high training loads warrant individualized help from a qualified sports dietitian or clinician. This module does not prescribe calories or supplement doses.

Author framework

Michael Greger's How Not to Diet emphasizes food characteristics such as fiber, water content, and energy density in weight management. Use its questions thoughtfully; do not transfer a weight-loss goal to every member.

Practitioner perspective

Dave Asprey discusses nutrition experimentation and individual response. Treat practitioner explanations and commercial claims as hypotheses to examine, not as substitutes for matched human evidence.

04 / Connected discipline

Writing & Articulation

Seek what is true. Say what you mean.

Separate observation, inference, and opinion. Write a claim, its evidence, a fair objection, and a clear next step. Practice speaking it without inflated certainty.

The human reason

Make understanding possible.

A difficult conversation handled honestly. A clear instruction under pressure. An apology without a defense attached. Words can create clarity or hide from it.

Where are your words more certain than your evidence?

Return something useful.

Help someone express an idea in their own words. Do not replace their voice with yours.

05 / Connected discipline

Dress & Style

Make your presentation deliberate.

Fit, context, condition, and a coherent wardrobe. Build a system that respects the occasion and the people in the room without confusing price with character.

The human reason

Arrive with intention.

Training, work, dinner, a ceremony: each has its own context. Dress to participate well, not to demand that the room validate you.

Does the way you present yourself respect both the occasion and your own character?

Return something useful.

Help a younger man understand fit and care before encouraging him to buy more.

06 / Connected discipline

Manners & Etiquette

Consideration made visible.

Listen, introduce people well, honor commitments, and repair mistakes cleanly. Social skill should preserve another person's agency, not exploit it.

The human reason

Make excellence safe to be around.

How you treat the server, the new member, and the person who cannot advance your interests says more than a polished introduction.

Who experiences the cost of your impatience?

Return something useful.

Include someone at the edge of a conversation. Offer an introduction with consent. Correct a mistake without humiliating the person.

07 / Connected discipline

Personal Economy

Build capacity. Steward the result.

Make obligations visible, understand cash flow, and connect skill development to useful work. Wealth is a means of responsibility, not a measure of human worth.

The human reason

Create room to act responsibly.

Meet an obligation. Weather an interruption. Fund useful work. A sound personal economy supports choices and commitments, not merely a more impressive number.

What promise does your financial behavior need to support?

Return something useful.

Teach a skill or explain a system you understand. Disclose your limitations, and never make another person dependent on your judgment.

08 / Connected discipline

Physical Foundation

Become capable of carrying the mission.

Coordinate strength, movement, conditioning, and recovery with the season you are actually in. More strain is not always more progress.

The human reason

Remain available to your life.

Compete, work, carry, walk, recover, and begin again. The standard is useful capability in your present circumstances, not resemblance to this figure.

What physical capacity would make your actual life better?

Return something useful.

Meet someone at their starting point. Share experience without prescribing your workload as their entry requirement.

The As Above standard

The more you advance,
the more you have to give.

Do not enable. Do not infringe. Build the capacity to act, preserve the freedom to learn, and return something useful to the people around you.

Your notes and practices are never posted to the community automatically.
